Sororitas Pact

The Rook

The Sororitas Pact is the 1850 agreement between the Checquy and the Croatoan, turning a long record of transatlantic cooperation into a formal compact. Its central provisions joined shared intelligence and extradition to a pledge against participation in war with the other’s country; later joint operations showed how the agreement’s bonds could be put into practice.

Background and Formation

The Checquy and the Croatoan maintained friendly relations despite their state-mandated separation. They initially avoided formal arrangements but communicated regularly, and visits between the two Courts occurred less than a decade apart. The pact codified these existing connections rather than creating cooperation from nothing.

Commitments and the List

The agreement established the List, a catalog of threats each organization considered especially serious. Any development involving a threat on the List was to be shared immediately, making information exchange an explicit commitment. The pact also provided for the extradition of transgressors and bound each organization not to consent to participation in a war against the other’s country.

Joint Operations and Consequences

The two organizations collaborated on several occasions. During the American Civil War, the Croatoan requested reinforcements when gigantic mollusks, stirred by the violence, returned and threatened the land. In 1903, the Checquy sought American assistance after a portal opened in Hong Kong and demons began infiltrating the community. In 1989, the organizations coordinated the suppression of animated dead in Hawaii, whose supernatural circumstances differed from those of the protected continental United States. The account presents these successful campaigns as strengthening their friendship.

Significance

The pact connected mutual confidence to practical obligations: share urgent information, return transgressors, and avoid being drawn into war against the other’s nation. The Croatoan later became the Checquy’s staunchest ally, and the two groups’ cooperation extended to incidents neither could necessarily manage alone. The agreement thus serves as both a diplomatic safeguard and an operational basis for joint action in a world where supernatural threats cross borders.
